electric question

vingtsous
I re-wired my 76k completely with a new harness.....

I was tcheking everything with my voltmeter.....

It seems fine everywhere but i have a question:

There is "juice" everywhere on the blinkers......position light circuit and flashing circuit.....

BUT Am i right to think that the voltmeter is supposed to "blink" from zero to ± 12 volts??

My tester stays still around 12v when flasher is on.......no variation!

Are the flashers supposed to "blink" when the engine is not running??

Flasher relay problem?

I cant verify for now with engine running..too early!

Thanks in advance!

Your tester is not pulling enough amps to make them flash.

Are you saying the meter's gauge jumps from +12 to -12 Volts?  Possibly a meter issue.

Check to see if there is any AC voltage across the Battery:  set your DVM to AC Voltage, and put the leads across the Battery, while the bike is running at 2,000 RPM.  If you read more than 1-2 VAC, then your Rectifier is bad -- it is allowing AC current to flow through the entire electrical system.  There are other possibilities, but we'll start here.  Cheers!

Sarg. Re-read his post. His meter stays at 12volt on the flasher circuit. He thinks it should be going from 12 volts to 0 volts like it is flashing the turn signals.
