engine noise...again.

skrivan
i have tuned my 1977 CB750k engine and synched the carbs.  it really runs great now, even starts up on kick-start first crank....new problem is there is a massively loud clanking noise that seemes to come from down low on left side of the engine.  i re-built the cluthc with all new plates and a new-to-me clutch basket, so i dont think it's the clutch.  Someone told me that it might be the camshaft or a bearing.  Anybody have any ideas on this one?  i suppose it could be the cam chain but it really only makes the noise at high load and after it gets fairly hot.  not psyched about tearing the engine apart that much, but i'm deep into this project now and will just do whatever is needed to get it running really good.  thanks again for any advice....joe

Lower left of the engine is the transmission, so it's probably that. There are several things in there that could go "clunk".

Charging system is on that side, too. Reckon something in there could be causing the noise. That's an easy cover to pull off and check at least
