wes,
Just some benchmarks for you to refer to.
My 750K standing still, I read 12.65 v at the battery. Key on, it drops to 12.08 volts.
Keep in mind my battery is 1 month old.
With the bike running under 1750 rpm, I am not charging. At 3000 rpm I pull 13.72 volts, which keeps climbing. I have hit 14v
I don't usually ride at high rpm so I can't really say where it tops off.

You are correct, CB Shwank.  The NGK Iridium plugs take a lower voltage to jump the gap.  They perform exceptionally well in the CB's weaker ignition systems.  A coil upgrade is a good idea, but the plugs are typically less money.  My bike starts almost instantly since I switched plugs, where I used to have to grind it for 4-5 seconds.  I paid around $8 per plug, and the coil upgrade was in the neighborhood of $30 per coil, and up, depending on what coils I went with.  The Iridium's are worth every penny, not only because they fire almost flawlessly, but they will last 100k miles in a car, so I figure they'll go at least 50k miles in my bike.  Cheers!

I hate to say it, but I think your carbs are going to have to be taken apart, for a through cleaning.

i agree tools.sound starved for fuel. started a few mins ago. battery only read 12 volts. wouldnt rise above 12.25 while runnin. gonna get irridium plugs and a good battey. read up on cleaning these carbs, check for what tools i need.  while runnin to check battery, still sputters, pops. did get tag today though. hit that pocket book one good time. wonferin what kind of time it will take to do these carbs. can i do it myself? i can always pay someone else to screw it up.

I know SC is very proud of their streets, and charge, you accordingly, for their use.
The only thing special, you will need to rebuild your carbs is a very small drill bit, and a No#2 wood screw to remove the plastic plugs in the accelerator pump. I use a pin vise with drill bits that are, for cleaning torch tips. You can get one at any welding supply, or even well stocked hardware stores. Other then that just take a lot of pictures as, you go,and do not be afraid. Worse comes to worse, you just might have to have some one help reassemble it, but I think, you can handle it.

Re: first bike---need help

cb shwank

as i was sitting in the garage all weekend at my rumage sale, i had lots of time to suck beer and explore this forum. lots of stuff here! to get to the point, i came across a link to make your own soda blaster. nobody ever said if they had used it on their carbs yet. it really looks kickass. maybe this is something to try to get those pops out too.

i know i am going to try it one of these days. i also dont see why a guy couldn't use it on the cases and such.

it was a year old post so i will just drop it in here.

That's a start & it couldn't hurt... unless your carbs look like these.

Wes since you are getting all the gas out, I would also check the petcock. Inside the tank it has a screen, maybe it is clogged & not allowing enough gas to the carbs?
Just a thought.

Re: first bike---need help

bike has a new petcock. actually, first time i cleaned the tank i just poured out the old gas, swashed around some new gas, poured that out and then refilled. i took carbs off, removed tops and bowls again.everything looks clean...the levers in the tops look new. one of the float valves is new. or newer.gonna try to post a pic or 2.carbcarbs these arnt the greates pics, every thing does "look" good in side. removed mane jet and holder on all, looked clean. no deposits. newer lookin fuel lines, clear lookin fuel filter. gonna get the iridium plugs, and a new battery.see what happens next...

There should not be any crud in the top of the carbs, like you have in your No#2 there. If, you have a big enough tank, you can soak it with out separating the rack, but I would recommend doing it. You will get a much better job. Also since, you have the carbs off. Check your rubber boots, for cracks, and make sure they are sealing.
