There should be a little pin on the back of that, straighten it out and the pull the pad out.

At least thats how it is on my '78.

Do you mean the slider? You have to pull the 8mm bolt out of the bottom of the slider, then it separates from the tube.

EDIT:

As per Tools suggestion, an impact driver works wonders, you may never get it out by hand. The bolt is a 6mm hex, easy peasy to strip.

That looks like it will require some soaking, and maybe heat to remove. As for the forks. Check out "My Buddies POW/MIA Bike" in the build thread. It shows how to rebuild the forks.

Hook the caliper back up and use the pressure of the fluid and push it out when you pump the handle.
Or hook up a grease gun to it and use that to pump it out.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

What Rerun said usually works. I had one the other day that I ran a drywall screw into the pad and pulled it out with a pair of vice grips. Of course this will ruin the pad.

my bike is in pieces..hooking it up is not an option right now and im getting another batch of parts ready to take to my buds for blasting.i got it soaking in that parts cleaner stuff right now..
