gas leaking from nipple on bottom of carb

scott_03874
i am new owner of 1979  cb 750k

All of the nipples were leaking profusely when i put in gas.
i removed the carbs , not an easy task , but easier than putting them back on lol

i removed the carburators bowls and all were gummed up  extensively.   I cleaned all of the bowls , just filled with old varnished gas
not quite solid yet but well on its way
all of the floats were stuck
i took all out and cleaned throughy.   put it all back together and one of them still leaks at the nipple.    i took off carbs again and cleaned again and very carefully cleaned the valve that closes the gas supply

put it back together , again,   and sure enough the leak from nipple is still present

other than the valve that is closed when the gas fill the bowl  what can i look for.

thanks for you help in advance

Lucky 1
I would have replaced all of the float valves.
Were they rubber tipped or all metal?

     Believe it or not
During my 1st cleaning ,1 of my floats were upside down,P.O. must have done it (sure did drop the price).

Most likely a float is too high or float needle is bad. If the float needle has a groove wore around the edge it might not ever seal right again. It doesn't take much of a groove at all for them to leak.

If your bike has the metal tipped ones they are hard to locate new individually. Actually,I never could find them at all. If you buy the rubber tipped ones you have to buy the seats that match them, and that gets expensive. Like $15 per carb expensive.

If you do have the metal tipped ones you can buy new float needles for an '81 Suzuki GS 750 from z1enterprises.com . They are just a teeny tiny hair longer than the Honda needles but they work. And they are muuuuuch cheaper than converting to the rubber tipped ones. $20 for the set of 4

Remember,it took 40 years for the metal ones to go bad!

If the bowls were gummed up,I bet the rest of the carbs have it as well. You will need to thouraly clean all the passages in the carbs. Are all of the jets clear?
Use new parts like said.
