chrome ring damagehi all,

i have recently purchased from ebay, 2 chrome dial rings that go around,
the speedo and the tacho. these rings hold the assemble together.

i have applied one (see picture) but as you can see i have really damaged it using a
screwdriver to crimp it back in place.

the question is:

has anyone attempted this successfully and if so, what is the trick?

i'm intending to buy another and start again.

cheers
marc

The best way I have found is to cut it with a Dremel tool using a cut off disc, then attach it with JB Weld, using a hose clamp to hold it while the JB Weld sets up. However some guys just crimp them on with pliers, but they always look some like someone installed them with pliers.

as i say, prising it with a screwdriver as in the second video will scar it....

thanks in any how, i may have to resort to using jb weld in the end.....but for now, of to find a crimper.

There are special tools made for this job. They aren't cheap. You can source the job out to someone that has the right tools or DIY.

If you DIY (like I did) you are either stuck with the screwdriver method or the JB Weld method. Unless you are really crafty and make a set of dies to press the crimp ring back together, at which point you might as well hire it done.

In short, they are not DIY friendly.
