is it gonna damage carbs if I glue rubber plugs to cap the pilot jets off with J-b weld ?

jamthebamm
last time I cleaned the crabs I found out the rubber plugs that cap off the pilot jets were not in their places therefor had my 3 cylinders not working right ( cold exhaust pips )  I bought a new set of 4 but they don't sit tight in the holes , what should I do ?

The little bump in your bowl is what holds these plugs in place. The plug have to fit tight enough to not leak, though. If you bought new plugs and they don't fit I'd either return them/talk to the supplier you got them from. Or try to figure out why they don't fit.

Are you positive they are the correct carbs for your bike?

They would come out if I hold the carbs in the right place , I'm sure both carbs and plugs are right for the bike , is j-b weld a bad idea ? even a pinch ?

also I was wondering if I can use metal rescue to get rid of the rust in the bowls ?

That passage needs to be leak free. If the plugs don't fit tight enough to hold themselves in then they're not tight enough to produce a good seal either.

I don't know how well JB Weld will stick to rubber. I've never tried.

Even though you could always grind/sand your JB Weld back off later, I would still look for a more non-permanent type solution. Maybe a few laps of teflon tape would help them to fit better?

This is kind of a wild card attempt, but a few squirts of carburetor cleaner will probably cause them to swell up. <- might be a bad idea. attempt at your own discretion. lol

The bowls are alloy. They wont rust. If you have brown colored stains in the bottom, but the bowls feel nice and smooth to the touch, then they are clean. They are just discolored.

Alot of rust removal products like that contain muriatic acid which will dissolve alloy.

My guess is the previews owner , He did the same trick to hold them tight together  , the old plugs look swollen compering to 1 of the new ones.

also with metal rescue they say its water-base non acid rust removal ( great for gas tank), but if you say it's just a discolor then I guess I don't need to use rust removal anymore

what they saying ......

"•    Easy to use, virtually no labor involved (no scrubbing, dipping, brushing or other agitation)

•    Just soak the part in a plastic container for 5 mins – 24 hrs depending on the severity of the rust

•    SAFE:  no acids, no caustics, no health risks, non-toxic, safe on skin

•    Environmentally Friendly: Safe for drains or sewer systems (check local laws for compliance)

•    Cost Effective:  Most efficient, easiest and safest way to remove rust

•    Does not compromise any mechanical properties or functionality of metal

•    Valued ARMOR brand is a trusted name that means reliability and confidence

•    Can be used in conjunction with other ARMOR corrosion inhibiting products

•    Product is available for immediate use upon removing from liquid

New float needles have arrived today , I used a little bit of JB Weld to hold the plugs in their places .I will put the carbs back on the bike today and hope they are gonna work properly this time .
ps I got new NGK spark plugs and spark plug wires to get better ignition . I'll post  the results later on here today .
