light rust on rotor (elec)

mikefootusa
OK searching for a rotor I leave no stone unturned.  Wound up finding a 1982 CB900c (with the same rotor).  Go look at it...pulled the stator cover and tested it...good!!!!!   Wound up buying the whole bike for $100.  Just spent an hour getting the old ones out...thank God for PB Blaster!...and a bigger hammer...actually had to use a a 24' pipe wrench on the bad one in the good bike.  The real problem was dealing with the crash bar on the right side.   Was able to take out the two front bolts and loosen the bottom bolt (nut would not come all the way off as it was hitting the exhaust) to be able to have the stator cover have enough clearance to come off...but the tool I borrowed from the Honda dealer was the star variety like a lug wrench with the various size threads on it.  In order to be able to get it into the rotor...the crash bar had to come fully off.  Got out the sawzall and shortened that bolt enough to get the crash bar off.

The good rotor tests out at 6.4 ohms but it has a bit of corrosion on it.  Can I sand or wire brush it and give it a spray with some polyurethane or something?  Or can I just ignore it as 30 year "patina"?  I don't want to take a chance that the corrosion will hit the stator...how much clearance is there there anyway?

In 1972 I had to make a choice...quit riding...or quit drinking.  God says it's safe to get back in the saddle now...at least I'm still alive...and feel more alive with the wind in my face!  Now riding "Helen Black"...1982  CB750SC.

Clean it up with some emery cloth, fine steel wool, or fine sand paper. I don't think you should coat it with anything.

The cams and carbs off that 900 will fit the 750. I read that they'll really wake that engine up.

Thanx Rich,
I cleaned them up with some green 3m pad and can't wait to throw it back in the bike first thing in the am...tomorrow is riding day...finally!  Six weeks into the project and ready to rock and roll.

The carbs were already gone as were the seat, tank, headlight, starter, regulator and exhaust.  But the instrument cluster and the final drive (shaft) should more than get my $$$ back.  Might even work on the engine over the winter and see what I can do with it.  The PO pulled the cam cover off and swiped something out of there but haven't really taken the time to see what.  The cams and chains are still there though.  The dual calipers in the front are the same as min...so I can ride while I rebuild those and then just do a swap.  Brings my total investment up to about $1200 as the original bike I paid $450 for.
