master cylinder snap ring

Boucher
Hey all,

Starting to plan some cold weather projects, namely making the front disk brakes work properly on my 81 cb750c (they stick, sometimes).

I recall taking the master cylinder apart and noticing that normal circlip pliers wouldn't reach the snap ring near the piston.    Is my memory foggy, or does this require some special pliers?

ALSO from my understanding, most CB's with front mounted disk brakes have problems. The calipers had minimal pitting, which i cleaned, and the lines are new(ish), so I'm hoping a master cylinder rebuild will solve any problems. Any words of wisdom?

Welcome to the forum. There is a special snap ring pliers, for the master cylinders. I got mine from vintagecb750.com for about $10.00.
As far as I know the only problem with Honda front breaks is leaving them sit. I would recommend an upgrade to braided stainless steel lines. The difference in breaking in unbelievable.
Here is a video on rebuilding the master cylinder. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2W24asyNujs
