need some help

fathacarl
Hello,
We are working on a chopper project and have some questions.
Started out with a 750 K3
so far we Konged the frame and are in the process of fitting the rear fender, Harley Soft-tail seat and mounting the tank.
The engine is pretty much toast.  I have access to a 79 750.  My question is, will a 79 engine fit in a 73 frame?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
                                      Thanks
                                          Carl

What City said. However it could be done. The lower frame rails are narrower on the older SOHC bikes. They had a dry sump lubrication system, and the DOHC uses a wet sump system. That's why the DOHC has a bigger oil pan. Also the DOHC head is much larger, and would hit the backbone unless the lower leggs were stretched.
It sounds like an interesting project. Keep us posted, and welcome to the forum.

Is the sohc engine shot? Does it have holes in it or something? There are lots of parts for rebuilding virtually anything on the engine. Plus, it seems more people work on the sohc engine than the dohc, so you could have more things done.
I guess you have to do the math on choping the frame more for a dohc with the time and work, or the cost of rebuilding the sohc, if it can be saved.

Thanks for the feedback.  I think I better stick with plan A and rebuild the K3 engine or keep lookin for a replacement.

Drop Tools a line if you are within a couple hours of him.
Otherwise, as long as your cases are good and your gears are good, virtually anything else can be replaced.

I'm just North of Detroit.  The 79 I have available looks pretty good from the pictures I've seen and it is very affordable.  Just not sure I want to start over.Could build two bikes.  It's only money
