new and already got a question

dchoiper4
hi guys i just bought an 1980 cb750 and im starting to rebuild piece by piece using a manual but its seems there arises a lot of question it cant answer. i was impressed by the amount of resources on this forums so i joined up. i hope to be of some use in the future.

alright so my problems, lol got a lot but this is what im working on atm

im start with the brake assembly, the master cylinder something happened and the brake fluid exploded/leaked out of the plastic reservoir and the paint of the metal holding it is crumbling off. so i took the top off and the little remaining brake fluid kinda solidified it needs a good cleaning, according the manual to take it apart i need to take off the brake lever handle so i took off the bottom nut/washer pretty easily but the silver bolt itself is being really stubborn im trying to using a flathead to unscrew but it keeps slipping and im afraid of ruing the screw. what i was wondering is if anyone who has taken this apart know if i can just hammer it out. on the manual it looks like the thread portion is short. i might just be threaded to the nut?

2nd is i need to purchase a few missing parts starting with the rear axle bolt. mine is a 1980 do all 1979-1983's bolts fit does i matter if its supersport or custom. also i see alot of axles on ebay im assuming i should go for an auction including chain adjusters and spacers?

You dont state if this is the K , F or the C or SC model. The C models never made their way to  Australia,  so am not familiar with them. But from what I can gather they are mechanically the same as the K and F model. The rest is cosmetic differences.
Depending on how  deep your wallet is and how much money you want to spend, then I would replace the brake fluid reservoir, and get the front caliper/s overhauled. How much money do you place on your life if you were to have a total front brake failure and end up being killed. For my money I dont muck around with those sorts of parts - buy new ones !! Bikebandit may have new reservoirs and so will hdlparts.com. All the bolts you are after are the same from 1979 to 1983. No changes were ever made to these Hondas through out their life time, so anything you need in terms of nuts and bolts for your Honda you should be able to get either new or second hand in the USA. Hope that helps.

A pleasure to be off some help. I did a little research for you and went to www.hdlparts.com and cheked out the spare parts list. They have everything you need for your Honda. Now here is something interesting I found. I checked the price of a  new master cylinder for a 1980 CB 750 and the part #445500-425-775 = $213.44  -  thats a complete assembly. Then I went to the 1979 CB750 , part #45500-413-874 = $319.81 !!! I printed out both pages to see if there was any difference, and cant find anything at all. For my money I would buy the master cyl assembly for $213.44. But again the decision is yours and if you can repair the master cylinder with all new parts from the kit thats is available then go for it. Just hope that when you get it all back together it still is in 100% working order. Brakes are something I dont like mucking around with. Let me know how it goes. Cheers. Peter
