Honestly, any oil these days, in the proper weight range, is more than enough for these bikes. Just make sure it is minimum 40 weight, and check the sunburst on the back and make sure it does NOT say energy conserving. Energy conserving oils can make the clutch plates slip.

I use shell rotella t6 5-40. Overkill, but I figure with a diesel oil, the bike will have ample protection, excellent engine cleaning, and I don't have to change as often. Others have used rotella 15-40 with good results. Just remember, the first number is important when temps are low. Lower number flows faster when cold.

Thanks for the tips.
I will also look for the JASO MA designation.

I have 20-50 in mine but I live in Phoenix AZ and don't have to deal with cold weather.

I ended up getting Valvoline 4 stroke full synthetic. It was on sale at PepBoys(even cheaper than Walmart) and is JASO MA2.
I stuck with 10w40 since it does get cold here in CT.

Don't concern yourself too much with jaso. It isnt that big a deal. Especially do NOT worry about "motorcycle" oil. That stuff is only better at 1 thing, costing you more money. FYI, rotella 5-40 is jaso certed.

Full synthetic will bring out every oil leak possible in these old engines.

Well I already changed it so I'll have to see if it leaks.
