So I put stabilizer (sta-bil) in my bike last week, thinking that I was going to be done for the year. Today we had a break in the horrible weather, and I decided to ride. About 20 minutes in, it starts blowing blue smoke. Billows of it. It also sounds like it's misfiring too.
I tested the compression a while back, and it was more or less even across the board. I've put about 600 mostly trouble-free miles on it since that test. Today was the first day I rode it since adding the stabilizer. (I poured in two ounces, topped off the tank, and rode it for about 10 miles, then drained the carbs)
Is it possible that the stabilizer knocked some varnish or something loose, and that was somehow maintaining my good compression? Or is it more likely that I just busted a ring and the stabil had nothing to do with it?
Also, why does my bike only break on the way to work, and never on the way home?

Pull the plugs and see if one is oily. Also recheck the compression.
