oil temp wire?

The white wire with the woven insulation on it. It goes to the stud on the oil pan and also the switch right beside the cam chain tensioner. It is just for the oil temp light, right? If I whack it off it will run just fine? I feel stupid asking, but my experience with tractors,if the low oil or oil overheat light comes on it usually kills the motor.I just wanted to make sure.I hate that stupid curly boot on the switch that refuses to lie where it it supposed to and am dying to throw it away. Thanks

It will still run, but it is a pressure switch. Not a temp sender.

An easy to do this is with a tee fitting where the original oil pressure switch is.  Plug in the tee, then plug in the oil pressure switch, then plug in the sensor/takeoff for the oil pressure gauge.  I like the idea of an idiot light, just in case the gauge doesn't get checked all the time.

Thanks. I didnt realize they were both pressure switches.I assumed the one in the pan was for temp. I was planning on running a pressure and teml gauge just like what Luke said.Tee it off. Thanks again.

The one in the pan is the neutral switch. I think.

Buy the T-stuff from your local plumbing supply, brass fittings (inexpensive, easy to find).  Instead of Teflon Tape, though, use hydraulic sealant, as the Tape will leak, after a few hours, no matter how many layers you wrap...  The hydraulic sealant comes in a tube, and it has to cure for 72 hours?  Anyway, the sealant is the bomb -- just make sure you have everything turned/angled the right way when you let it cure...    Don't ask.  Cheers!

Ok.I better take a closer look then. The one i am saying goes into the pan,i didnt climb under see where it stops actually, but it goes that direction. It is the same type woven insulation wire and where it comes up on the left side of the motor from underneath,it goes thru the stator cover and tees into the wire from the oil switch by the cam chain adjuster. The wire from that switch goes thru the starter housing area and into the stator cover. I just assumed they were both switches since the wire tees off of one another.
