thinking about pods for my 78 750K.anyone done this successfully and if so how ? pros & cons ?  as an aside-how about pods on a 82 650 nitehawk ?

Pods on a 78 won't be any different than anything from 69-76. The carbs are still simple slide carbs and do not require the vacuum.

Of course you will need to tune the idle mix, out makes the carbs richer. You MAY need larger main jets but I would test before just buying. I didn't do pods but did a K&N in the box and barely had to tweak the fuel screws.

There aren't really any pros other than subjective looks. Not on a stock engine or even a slightly worked motor.

Cons are getting the filters wet in the rain. Crosswinds can be a pain. Need to make a support for the carb rack.

The Nighthawk will have CV carbs and so the typical cv issues arise when trying to use pods. It will take a lot of work and time. Slownugly had something on pods that he got to work on his 750. Much of it should be applicable to the 650. That said, it may work, it may not. It likely won't improve performance.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
