pop and smoke

so on my 1970 cb750  i had fuel constantly flowing out of the number 1 overflow while it was running i shot a few squirts in the number 1 carb hoping itll break up whatever was in there now it is not leaking but im getting a pop in the number 1 cyclinder and faint white smoke coming out any ideas? any help would be very appreciated

Usually if the overflow is leaking the float needle is not sealing. You can smack it a bit with a screwdriver handle on the bowl. If that does not do it, shut off fuel and drain bowl and remove it. Remove the float and needle and clean the needle and seat. Reassemble. if it still leaks, the over flow tube in the bowl may have a crack in it or the screw is not sealing.
