I have a 1972 CB750 . All the stickers are in japanese, but the gauges have a blue background and are in MPH not Kilometers,You can turn the headlights off when it's running and it has parking lights and dual disc brakes and never had a data plate ,just a serial # number stamped in the headstock in the usual place.Obviously not a USA bike. Here's the thing; the bike is purple with a gold stripe on the tank. I've been in the autobody business for many years and it appears to be the original paint. Everyone who looks at it says the paint looks original, but Honda never made a purple 750.Anybody ever hear of such a thing? I'm redoing the bike and if the purple is by some chance original or a special order fleet color then I'll keep it purple.Otherwise it's going to be Planet Blue.

This is the easiest site in the world to post pictures to. Just click on "Reply" then at the top of the box, you will see "Insert Image" After clicking that, just click "Browse". That will bring up your picture files on your computer. Just select the file, and click on open. It's easy.

It looks like a blue bike with a white stripe on my computer screen, but that could just be me. Someone has installed finned covers on the clutch and ignition. Looks like it was customized at some time, maybe the paint was, too.
Best bet to find out for sure is to pull the tank and sand underneath. If there are no other layers of color under that purple than it was either the only color ever applied to that bike,or someone stripped the factory paint and shot it.
Interested to see what you find.Keep us posted please.

Sorry I don't believe that it is purple ,Looks to me like oxidized real bad blue, But,I've been wrong 1's before,Take some rubbing compound to it in a lil spot(couple times)it is work,
then wet or wax to put gloss on,Maybe purple ,no matter I say paint the mother "p.....".
Nice start for the bike.

Yeah it looks blue in the pictures, but it's purple like Plum Crazy on the 70's Mopars. There is not another color underneath.Obviously the first thought is a repaint and normally I wouldn't bother mentioning it,but it has been examined carefully. The tank and the side covers are both the original and the only color they have ever been is PURPLE! I have a 60's Ducati single that all the experts said had to be a repaint, the color scheme was wrong. After three years of research it turns out it is the original paint, the bike was assembled in Spain and used a different color scheme from the Italian bikes. I've been doing body and paint for 40 years and I pretty much know original paint. The bottom of the Honda tank and the sidecovers are oversprayed exactly like the other factory colors and the paint itself is/was very thin, again like the factory. The only answers on the Honda would be that it is a fleet color or special order, or like the Ducati was assembled somewhere else,or that I'm wrong. No offense, but I'm not looking for a debate on if it's a repaint or what color it is,or am I mistaken,I am simply asking if anyone has seen or heard of a factory, purple, asian model CB750. It looks badass in purple so I think purple it will stay no matter what the outcome.

Robbie purple is an off color and not many people choose it for cars, trucks or bikes, But it looks very different from the normal. I have a purple 96 trans am and I have had some people tell me I need to change the color but it is factory and I don't want to change it.
I say to each is own. If you like it run with it.
It would be cool to see if it is factory, were the bike is from.
Simple if some one else can, why can't I

Jamie, the purple is really growing on me,I like it more and more.By the way,the stripes look white in the picture but they are gold.Looks good with the purple!
|
|
If you are going to restore the bike. It would be cool to see how it comes along. I would not change to much as the purple will make it unique as it is. I bet it would turn out nice.
Simple if some one else can, why can't I
