rear shock mounting bolt broken.

clintwillis
One of my rear shock mounting bolts is broken ... I am at work or would attach a picture.  I can do that later.

Any recommendations on replacing the broken threaded bolt that is welded into the frame on the rear?

Grind the weld to remove the old one. Then find one on an old frame, and grind it off. Then weld it to your frame. If you need one let me know as I have several old frames in the scrap pile.

Go buy a metric grade #8 bolt that will be long enough to go through the frame.
Cut the head off of the bolt.
Then make sure the threaded part is trimmed to size and the smooth part of it is long enough.

Cut the old one off of the frame and then drill out the part that is in the frame.
Put the new stud/bolt all the way through the frame and weld both sides.
TIG welding is best.

If you go with the gr.8 bolt metric bolt. Use a grade 10.9 As on metric the grade 8.8 is like a grade 5 and the 10.9 is like a grade 8.  If you do take that route get a bolt that has some smoth shank. You can cut it so that your shock mounts on the smoth part. then cut off the other end leaving you as much threads as you need. Do not use metric socket heads as some are a grade 12.9 and are hardened. Like a alloy steel they may crystalize from the heat of welding.

I would go with a original mounting bolt.

Good luck
Simple if some one else can, why can't I

That is what I do a living sell fasteners cutting tools and abrasives. Metric bolts do not go by gr.5 or gr.8

Cool. I already broke a dozen drill bits on it. One broke off inside, can't drill through it.
