running too rich?

Kha
Hey guys, I went and started my bike today like usual, put choke on and start it. The bike fired up but dies right away. Took the choke off and the bike started up and is able to idle but shaky right around 1k rpm.  Engaged the choke and the bike dies. Yesterday I was riding it and it stalled on me couple times at a stop when I blip the throttle. The only recent change I did to the bike was a CBR coils and wires. It ran alot better than stock but could it be causing the rich symptoms? Should I re adjust the fuel mixture?

The coils would not affect the mixture. Is it blowing black smoke, and have you pulled a plug to see what color it is?

Plugs were dark on all four cylinder. No smoke but noticed more gas odor. I'm thinking my plug is bad because the bike would idle very bad compared to before (low and shaky). Act like it's gonna die. I have this bike running good but ever since I switched the coils, the rich symptoms appear.

The rich symptoms might be because the coils are not working properly.

I'll double check the coils today after work.  Reset the fuel screw to  1 1/2 turns out and started it this morning, and it started up fine with choke. I'm gonna adjust the fuel mixture today and put some new plugs in.

Any body here has any experience  with the cbr coils?

If I recall correctly, it doesn't take much to foul the spark plugs if the carbs are set to rich-to-very-rich.  They can be cleaned a few times, but I had this happen to my old 750L when I first got it. Plugs should be fairly cheap (maybe $3 each for the NGK type), so I'd recommend buying 2 sets: one for getting the carbs closer, and one set for when the carbs are properly set and sync'd and running well.

I just changed the plugs in my Shadow after 3 seasons of riding.  The carbs have been fine since I rebuilt them the first season, and the insulator on the plugs showed a light brown to gray color.  Just about perfect. It's starting better, as well.  Imagine that.

Update.  Well I got home set the fuel screws to factory setting and clean the plugs.  Put it back on and it started up again fine.  Idled good.  Let it warm up. Took it for a ride to watch the world cup. Lol.  I'm just gonna leave it like that and will buy new plugs. I'm gonna sync it since I've never had done it.  Just bench sync. It's bone stock so I'll probably leave the idle adjustments alone now.

Got me new plugs in and went for a ride.  Got home and pulled the plugs, 1 seems a bit rich and 2-4 is lean.  Idle screw is set at 1.5 turns on all carbs. Float Heights checked and is all the same. I'm thinking that the spark wire to cylinder one is bad.  I'm using the cbr wires that came with the cbr coils.  I switched cyl 1 wire back to the original wire. Gonna ride it tomorrow and check it again.
