shocks..

johnnya
just bought a pair of chrome look alike shocks for my F1 750...they look ok on the bike but i could do with a bit of advice...the spring is in two sections with a plastic piece between...does this need to remain or can it be removed as  they would look better without it, also, what is the procedure for adjusting shocks...is it easy and are any special tools needed, thanks..

The plastic piece has to stay but you might be able to get away with trimming some of it down to hide it better. I think its main use is to keep the springs from rubbing and squeaking and to keep the coating on to prevent rust.
Shouldn't be anything special in adjustments. turn the preload and thats it.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
