sohc verses dohc

wynnbricky
Hello this is my first post. I recently restored a k3 chopper in an amen frame. I am building a bobber with another amen frame and have removed a bad k2 sohc motor. ????? My question is will a newer dohc motor maybe an 80 or 81 mount in the frame the same as the k2? also is there good reason to prefer the dohc or should i replace it with the single??? Thanks for any advice.

Well the sohc is a simpler engine to be sure. It also enjoys pretty good after market support.
There is not much power difference between the 2, the dohc might win out by a couple hp when everything gets to the wheel.
I think the sohc engine lends itself better to old style chopper looks better and is virtually bulletproof.

What is bad about the k2 motor? Is it frozen or got a large hole in it?
If frozen, take out the plugs and pour in some penetrating fluid and let it sit a few days and then try to break it loose. I guess it mostly depends on how much work you want to do on the engine.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

thanks for the input. the engine that came out was hit and tore out of the mounts. the case is toast and too many miles on it to look for a new case.

The motor mounts with the exception of the top front mounts I believe are the same. Should fit with minimal effort.
