they arent all that bad to take off. you should have an adjustable airbox behind the carbs if it is the same as my 80 750custom. loosen the clamps, loosen the bold on top of the air box and pull it back. gives you about 2 inches of play. slide the carbs right out. hope this helps you out a little bit to not feel intimidated on tackling your carbs.
