Shorter Fork Tubes

I know this question has been asked to death but I want to lower the front end of my 77' 750F. I know I can just slide the tubes up higher through the triple tree, but could I replace JUST the tubes with shorter ones (while still using my stock fork case (I really like how they're black!)? I know Cycle X sells them but are there any smaller CBs like a 450 or 550 that I could just swap the tubes out for? Bare in mind I would like to drop them about 2 - 2.5 inches.
