Newbie with "new" bike - checking in

Went to the bike graveyard last night. For $200, we got what we think is an '82. It's a Honda 750 Four. The title, which we will pick up when we get the bike & pay, today, will tell us everything.
Without pics, it didn't happen, so here's a pic:
The undertaker said the bike runs but has "something noisy" in the bottom end. He is also throwing in a newer/cleaner looking engine that has a good bottom end but "a little something wrong" in the top end. So, April should be able to piece together a good engine from all that.
I found a shop manual in the manuals section here, so that will be an enormous help.
Any hints or tips will be GREATLY appreciated.
