Not as critical as far as vacuum goes since the sohc carbs are an actuated slide. But jetting is still a concern. You also can suffer issues with strong cross winds and in the rain.
If you do go with pods, do yourself a least a bit of a favor and get K&N pods. Not the cheap-o pods. They might look like a good deal but they are junk.
