carb insulators(boots)

Is it possible to make a insulator? I have a bad #4 boot and am going to order some in the next day or so, and was just wondering if it is possible. I would like to continue working on the bike while I'm waiting for parts. Wife will be out of town so this will be the best time to work on it.
