Shiny, have you tried this:  Empty all the gas, put in some sharp edged nuts and bolts and such (about 1/4 or 1/3 full), seal up all the openings, and agitate by hand for a few minutes.  Alternatively, you could do the above, put it in a box with some foam rubber to cushion it, and put it in a clothes dryer ON THE AIR ONLY SETTING.  10-15 minutes should be plenty to knock off anything on the inside.

Unless you feel more comfortable taking a plasma cutter to the tank and re-welding it...
