According to one mechanic, the choke is supposed to slip to the "off" position after a little while. I don't know if it does this by simple vibration, or if something is actually pulling the choke open. I tried several times in vain to tighten the choke knob on my bike. It will tighten down some with the bushing underneath the knob.
I think it does that so that the bike comes off of the choke pretty quickly: might be an emissions thing (keeps it from running too rich for too long).
Your experience will vary, and I look forward to other riders chiming in with their observations.
