On both my CB and my Shadow, I shift into first as I'm coming up to the stop light/sign. If I do this, it goes into first very easily. If I go to neutral, no matter how long I hold the clutch in, it goes *CLUNK* when I shift into first.  

Temperature doesn't matter with this behaviour. I have noticed that the Shadow shifts better after a long freeway run, and only a little less so when it's been cold.
