Ditto Luke's response.  If I take it into neutral at a stop sign sometimes, when I think it's gone into first, it hasn't engaged properly and when I attempt to roar away, I stand still and over rev the engine, which is embarrassing to say the least.  For this reason, I usually get it into first on the approach and leave it there at the light.  Probably not so good for the clutch but less embarrassing.
