If you're running a higher viscosity oil than Honda recommends (10W30 or 10W40 should work for most people in the States), that can lead to heavier shifting when warm. I recall one episode of American Chopper where they had starting problems on one bike. They ran straight 60 weight oil in that engine, and it was cold from sitting near the garage door overnight in the winter. Naturally, that led to hard starting. Once they put some 30 weight in there, it started fine.
