I have a UK passport and am a legal permanent resident of the US.  Try going through immigration in some cities.  Florida (I know it's not a city) is the worst.  One guy last year wasn't going to let me and my wife in because we'd been away for four months.  She had been getting treatment for a serious illness in Europe and couldn't travel.  He said you cant just use a green card like a visa to come and go as you please?  You get questions like how long have you been away?  Why?  What were you doing?  What kind of business?  Can be very aggressive.
