Tank fitment?

Ive been on the search for an earlier model gas tank for my 81 750ss. I like the lines of the 76 and 77 ss tanks, but after looking at them im not sure they will fit my bike or how exactly these are mounted. i know mine has the two rubber pieces at the front and one bolt at the back. has anyone swapped tanks? and if so did you have to fab up new brackets or will it bolt up to the existing mounting hole?
