In 1st gear with the clutch pulled in it will be hard to turn the wheel.Nature of the beast.

Do these starters have brushes? I'm guessing they do.I wouldnt think they are permanent magnet motors. Maybe it just needs brushes. If one brush is good and the other is bad it would make the starter incredibly weak. Or it could have more than two brushes.I really don't know,just throwing ideas out there. Good luck man
