Well I think you should be able to mount it diagonally but it may need to be lower and I am not sure how it would affect the dampening ability. You may also want to mock something up, a simple tube and rod combo to make sure a 330mm unit isnt too long or that it does not stick out weird. Basically test the angles and see what looks/works the best.
