Stock setting for the idle screw is 1.5 turns out. therefore that large of a idle jet would not be needed.
Plus, the linkage has no slop, they are adjustable. 1 side should close almost all the way while the other side is open a bit. #2 IS stationary but 1,3, and 4 are adjustable. You take a 1/8 inch drill bit and use the shank and set all 4 to the same amount, called a bench sync. This is the way they should be.
The only linkage that could have slop is the choke link as 1&2 are separate from 3&4.
I know you have done your testing but I have too. I have learned these carbs inside and out for over 15 years. I can, in virtually all exhaust changes, say that rejetting is not required except in all but the most extreme cases such as drag pipes.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
