Carb rebuilding issue, help

I bought Randakk's master carb rebuild kit and Mike Nixon's illustrated how to book. Removing the air cut of valve covers is next to impossible the way he explains it.

Mike says remove covers while the carbs are still attached. you can't fit any size off ste screw driver in there. Can I disassemble the carbs to get to those screws?
