Good sources for learning?

I'm new to the world of building bikes/working on them but i absolutely love tinkering away and learning new things and although i have friends with shops who work on bikes i can only grab so much information from them while they work. I am extremely eager to learn more, what would be some good starting points? Books to check out? HELP!!!!
