I bought a combo regulator/rectifier from Ricks Motorsports.

It was two separate parts but now it is combined into one unit.
Ricks's Motorsports unit is  plug and play.

The rectifier makes 1/2 wave AC into  DC

The regulator regulates how much is stored in
 the battery and how much is given off as heat.
