A little while back.  I had about the same thing happen.  What I ended up doing, was first check wire connections.  First thing I did, was unplug and check connections on the regulator/rectifier.  one didn't look right, pulled the blade connector out a little, plugged it back in and "Ta Da!"  Electrical power was back.
