Don't mean hijack the thread, but Shiny, have you tried applying a thin bead of RTV Silicone around the gasket area to seal it?  It's super easy to apply with a rubber glove; then, after it dries, you can clean it up with minimal effort.  RTV Silicone is your friend.  Cheers!
