There should be a little pin on the back of that, straighten it out and the pull the pad out.

At least thats how it is on my '78.

Do you mean the slider? You have to pull the 8mm bolt out of the bottom of the slider, then it separates from the tube.

EDIT:

As per Tools suggestion, an impact driver works wonders, you may never get it out by hand. The bolt is a 6mm hex, easy peasy to strip.
