I took my motor to yet another master welder today. He was confident he could repair the crack in the head. But he, too, was reluctant to do the job with the head fully assembled due to the amount of heat that would transfer to the valve seals. BUT!!!! He is also the third qualified person I have spoke with that said the best way to fix it is using J.B. Weld. Since the crack is so small. I'm not a fan of the stuff personally. I want this fixed right. On the other hand, If I have it welded, $75, then I have to replace the seals and head gasket. If I buy another I have to rebuild it and replace all the seals and gasket. This head IS rebuilt, with only about 1/10th of a mile on it. So, if J.B. Weld fails, I only lose a couple days labor. So I am going for it. I cut the crack nice and wide, gave myself a nice, rough surface with the handy dandy dremel and packed her good. Tomorrow I will grind it all down and verify my cam lobe clearance. After seeing the repair, I must say my confidence is high. Now to put it all back together.
