GP shift / Reverse shift. Need help before I do something bad

All my bikes are GP shift ie 1 up 4 down.  My cb 750 I am working on is standard shift.  I am just getting it together and am noticing on test runs, I am messing  up shifts.  
Is there anyone who has done reverse shifting on this bike and if so what adapter did  you use or how did you do it.  
The quick answer is put rear sets on it, but I would rather not do that just now.
