I believe that CycleX is on the west coast and has an engine exchange program: http://www.cyclexchange.net/StreetFighter%20Motor%20Page.htm (scroll down and look at budget engines).

That said, $2500-$3000 is too much for a bike that I paid $700 for.  It's up to you.  You'd basically end up with a new engine/transmission though.  I've only heard good things about the cycle x stuff, but it is pricey IMO.

Also, are you sure your current engine isn't having some simple problems you could fix yourself?
