I defer to tools, but a cheap thing to try might be an oil change? have you tried running a good synthetic?

I thankfully haven't needed a new clutch, but I think I recall hearing that new dohc clutches are hard to come by. There is always fleabay though.

Sounds like a clutch problem. It might be ready, for a new one.
