Won't run choked

Hi all,

my '79 K is now in excellent running condition. The only thing I can't seem to figure out is why when I start up the bike choked, it'll go up to 3000-4000 rpm like it should, but then very slowly return to idle speed and die. Most of the time this happens, some of the time it will behave normally. I have to juice the throttle a little to keep it running choked. Once it warms up, it runs fine without the choke--- no problems. What gives?
