cant get starter working

i am 99% done with wiring,cant seem to get the elewct starter working,if i cross the terminals on the solinoid the starter engages,but when i run power to the handle bar switch and to the button i get nothing,seems like no matter what i do i cant get power to the other side of the solinoid,1 main wire to battery,1 to groung,red and yellow from solinoid  to switch housing and a black coming off the solinoid also to i think black at switch also,i even tried a seperate switch i had lying around,this should be a simple job 1970 cb750k,all i can think of is bad solinoid or i am an idiot and missing something
