I have a 19" wheel on the front of my 73 with a 100\90x19 tire.  On the back I have a 17" wheel with a 110\90x17 tire.  It turns around on a dime and goes around corners so quick I don't even have to think about it.  Very confidence inspiring.  My next tire on the rear will be a 120 to slow the steering a little and give it more stability a speed.

By using spoke rims you can match up just about anything,I like the lowered 16 inch myself ,BUT as mentioned those that race bikes (reason my F2 so high)taller tire stance gives more /better ground clearance,in 65 (sporty)they also had the shifter on the "wrong side just because was used in circle track racing and had to be stock bike. 16s with some bigg meat's (ya have to check chart for your type of height on those.)would look mean.
