The only engines that were sandcast, were the early 1969 models, as far as I know -- they're collector pieces because so few were made! I hope that is not a genuine sandcast engine...

Did you check the plate on the steering head? It will have the model, and year, stamped in it. That's assuming the engine goes with the frame you still have the engine attached to.
Honda tried to standardize their wiring by using color-coded insulation: black, black-white, black-yellow, red, red-green, etc. If you have some of the original wires that are looking for a home, try tracking them down by their color coding compared to the schematic's color listings. Barring that, you could apply the process of elimination/verification... Tedious, but thorough. Cheers!
